Postcard From Silverstone, Thursday: Goodbye? Hello! Goodbye!

Posted by: redbullf1 June 19th, 2009 at 5:55 pm

So the final grand prix at Silverstone? The last time we unpack set up and welcome the British fans to the former Northamptonshire airfields…

Well it could be. The rumours flying aroud are that we’ll be back, Donington will get its race and Valencia will be come the Costa del Azahar Grand Prix or something.

But enough of politics – this evening we welcomed our guests into the Paddock and the Energy Station. Twenty fans came to visit us to have dinner and a drink and tour the garages and the Paddock. By all accounts they had a good time – for some the alternative was a chilly evening in the campsite, so a little relative luxury perhaps went a long way. We’ll be running similar evenings at other circuits this year… so keep checking back here and the main site

Because it is damn cold. Following Monaco and Turkey, it was winter jackets out to fight off the biting wind.

Rumour also has it there’s a big powwow amongst the FOTA team chiefs this evening before tomorrow’s deadline.

So… let’s hope we’re coming back next year for a British race what ever the venue.

Bernie (He Who Should Be Obeyed) Ecclestone had always said that even if Donnington would not be ready there would not be a British Grand Prix at all because we would not be going back to Silverstone. Over the weekend he changed his story on that and said that if Donnington would not be ready then of course we would be coming back to Silvestone. I wonder what changed his mind? Nothing to do with Jenson Button’s resurgence and the continuing love and support for Lewis Hamilton making this season’s British Gand Prix a total sell out, I’m sure!

Have they started the new building work at Donnington yet? Er, no. See you at Silverstone next year then.

It might not have been the warmest this year but it was certainly better than last season when the wind howled and the rain lashed. It took me a week to thaw out. And Jenson’s tyres didn’t like it so you never heard me complaining I can assure you!
