Postcard From The Nurburgring, Saturday: There’s So Much To See And Do
Posted by: redbullf1 July 12th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Today the whole grand prix really came to life. And not just the on-track where Mark and Sebastian fought hard in weather which appeared to change five times each session either.
The crowds of fans kept on growing and the hardcore Ferrari/Michael fanatics are out in force Perhaps the best was the one bodypainted red carrying the biggest yellow flag it was physically possible to transport single-handedly while operating an air raid siren outside the drivers hotel. Without any apparent sense of irony what so ever.
Then following the ontrack entertainment we had the Red Bull Germany Party at Camp4Fun. It’s billed as the Offtrack Event for a reason. As well as guest appearances from our drivers and team principal and a herd of German celebs, the winners of this year’s Dakar Rally winners Giniel de Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz did a display over the offtrack terrain and gave people rides. Just to see if they could stomach it.
If you weren’t one of our three competition winners (congratulations Silvia Dameova, Phil Horler and Alex Holyoake) then here’s a short clip of the fun and games:
Finally a random, non-scientific survey revealed that the main Germanic expression of fashion – the humble baseball cap – ranks like this in terms of popularity:
1 Ferrari
2 Red Bull Racing – Sebastian Vettel
3 Sebastian Vettel beanie hat (I know, not a baseball cap…)
4 McLaren (Mercedes, see?)
5 Schumacher
6 BMW (keep up)
7 The Nürburgring
8 Toyota (Cologne…)
9 Williams (old style)
10 Robert Doornbos (…as it’s the Dutch home GP)
Only one each of this lot: Aston Martin, Renault, Honda, the FIA (!)

I was one of the lucky few to attend this party (as Alex’s guest actually) and I just want to say thanks to the Red Bull team for giving us the chance to do so. Apart from it being one of the best parties I’ve ever been to, with exceptional food and drink and the brilliant offtrack area to entertain the guests, we also got the chance to see the drivers and Christian, have a close look at the (old) car which I found very interesting and just get an inside feeling of the team. The location was great and everyone was very friendly. Mark’s q&a was very funny and Sebastian’s sounded like it too- I wish I understood German!
I hope more teams follow Red Bull’s example of creating a strong relationship with the fans by letting them in their world a little bit.
Ino
P.S. I have put some pictures and written a little post about it here: http://f1givesyouwings.blogspot.com/2009/07/do-you-want-to-come-to-party.html
I was also one of the lucky ones and must only confirm the previous comment of Ino – it was a great experience and party! Besides the new “molecular cuisine” food (you could watch the cooks making masterpieces and it tasted also the way:), the drivers were willing to take pictures and give autographs what I did not expect – they must be already bored! I saw only one small drawback: I would have so much loved meeting and talking to the other winners there, but I did not know who they were
– now I know Ino:). So see you maybe at another GP:) (or even better at another Red Bull Party:)
