And Tell Us Something We Didn’t Know…

Posted by: redbullf1 November 18th, 2009 at 9:46 am

He should have been first, but Mark Webber has been voted the second nicest man in sport according to a BBC poll in the UK.

Vote in Our First Fan Awards – And Win Yourself Prizes

Posted by: redbullf1 November 13th, 2009 at 1:49 pm

We want to know who you think was the best driver of 2009, which was the best race of the year and which other team you thought did a half decent job against Red Bull Racing.

So… who gets your vote in the Red Bull Racing Fan Awards 2009?

Everyone who votes in the Red Bull Racing Fan Awards 2009 has the chance to win a sackful of Red Bull Racing merchandise, and 12 runners-up will each get a prize. It’s a win-win, it really is.

All you have to do is go to our online voting page (http://bit.ly/Fan_Awards), choose your winners and contribute to the first ever Red Bull Racing Fan Awards.

The deadline for voting is midday (GMT) on Monday, December 7. The results will be published on Friday, December 11 and with any luck we’ll ship out the prizes before Christmas.

So we need to know which you think is the…

1. Driver of the Year
This one’s open to any driver on the grid. But as a reminder: Sebastian scored our first and last wins of the season and came a close second in the Drivers’ Championship. But… Mark Webber scored his first grand prix win – and his second – and finished on the podium eight times. And all after coming back from a broken leg. Our neighbours also saw Sébastien Buemi score in  his debut race of the season and had a strong finish. Young Jaime also proved himself, even with little F1 experience. So who was your driver of the year?  Or was it (shame on you…) someone outside the Red Bull family?

2. Race of the Year
China a one-two in the wet; Silverstone another one-two at the Factory’s home race; Nurburgring when the German media thought Seb should have won it; Suzuka where Seb proved how dominating the RB5 is, Brazil where Mark stole a march on the Brawns and Seb fought from 14th on the grid to fourth. Or Abu Dhabi? Abu Dhabi when we dominated.

3. On-track Moment of the Season
Mark’s re-overtake of Jenson in China, Seb’s Suzuka flier, Mark’s defence of his second place in Abu Dhabi or Vettel’s brilliant run in Brazil. Happily there were several this year.

4. Event of the Year (non-racing)
Seb meeting ZZ Top, Manic Street Preachers coming to Silverstone, Kings of Leon in Abu Dhabi, The Who in Melbourne or something not music related: Mark’s recovery from injury, Adrian Newey’s post-race celebrations or Seb naming his cars?

Not Necessarily Red Bull…

5. Other Team of the Year
Who was your second favourite squad? Our sister team, the Toro Rosso young guns? New-boys/nemesis Brawn? If you really had to choose, it’d be…

6. Hero of the Year
Christian Horner? Adrian Newey? Or is it someone else who doesn’t necessarily wear blue: Ross Brawn perhaps? Jenson Button? Nelsinho? Jean Todt?

7. Bad Boy of the Year
Hmmm. Were there any?

8. Debut of the Season
Sébastien Buemi made his mark in his rookie season as did Brawn, as did Abu Dhabi. And Mr Kobayashi wasn’t half bad either.

9. Shock of the Year
Once again Formula One threw up its fair share of surprises: Max, BMW, Toyota all deciding to go (for now); the Singapore revelations from 2008, Lewis not being totally honest in the first couple of races…

Everyone who votes gets their name entered into a prize draw to win a bag stuffed full of prizes. It’ll contain:

A 2009 Garage Pass, one 2009 hospitality bag, an RB5 Minichamp model, the complete Victory Poster set, a 2009, collectors’ edition press pack signed by the drivers, a set of 2009 drivers’ autograph cards,  a team baseball cap signed by Sebastian, the complete Best Of The F1 Red Bulletin (RIP) 2005-2008, the 2006 Red Bull F1 Coffee Table Book, a copy of Forumula One 40 Years of Fascination And Passion by Ferdi Krailing, a Trust Red Bull Racing computer mouse and, because he’s still very much part of our team, a signed David Coulthard Farewell Exhibition Catelogue from Monza 2008.

As well as the top prize we have one each of the above to give to our runners-up. All will be picked entirely at random.

Win An Abu Dhabi Victory Poster!

Regular subscribers will know the drill by now… Red Bull Racing wins a race, we produce a very smart poster for the staff in Milton Keynes and keep 25 back to hand over to competition winners.

The final race of the year brought a special result for us and this poster is pretty special. It shows Seb and Mark in parc ferme, and on the reverse scenes from the race, the celebrations afterwards and the official race team pictures for this year. It’s a work of art.

If you want to be in with a chance of winning one, all you have to is answer the question below and enter our competition.

Which member of the Red Bull Racing team shared the podium with Seb and Mark at Abu Dhabi?

You need to send the answer, your name, full postal address and a daytime phone number to competition@redbullf1.com before 5pm (CET) on Sunday, November 29, 2009. The 25 winners will be chosen at random from the correct answers.

Best of luck…

2010 Starts… Now

Posted by: redbullf1 November 4th, 2009 at 5:04 pm

The rosewater had hardly dried on the drivers’ overalls before thoughts turned to 2010.

Actually that’s a complete lie. We celebrated and congratulated each other for a good two and a half hours before duties for next season began. Those two and a half hours included a team picture taken on the edge of the Marina in which a lot of photographers and unsuspecting guests were showered in champagne and a beer or two beside the team hotel. All quite civil.

28812_1_thumbnail_750x550_page1_97808[1]

But, by Wednesday it was well and truly back to duty: Seb was taking part in day two of the Race of Champions in China and Mark and Christian were hosting a press afternoon with the media local to our UK base.

And, while the race team has been away winning the final three races of the season, the Milton Keynes team has been fully operational working to improve the car and improve our chances of winning even more races next season. It’s also a truncated closed-season as Bahrain begins the 19-race 2010 marathon campaign on March 14. Into this curious mix is the test ban until February 1. It’s going to be an interesting winter.

Not that us here on the internet team are kicking back and thinking of moving to the Caribbean for three weeks. The idea is to still bring you news from the Factory, to keep you fully loaded with information about the drivers’ activities (which will probably not include mountain bike races…) and moderate the debate we expect on the Forums. Talking points? The season is only two days cold and already we’ve had Toyota leave, Rubens confirm he’s leaving but staying in F1, a 19-season provisional calendar yet to be confirmed and a lifeline thrown to our friends at BMW.

There’s never a dull moment in Formula One, let alone a dull day, but what’s your take on it all so far?

Revelry

One of the talking points of the weekend has been what happens to the circuit and it’s wonderful air-conditioned facilities next week. And the week after that. And the months before we roll around again next year. The fear was all this would be mothballed until next November. It turns out this is not the case. One of our number spoke to the Paddock Manager here (he used to run logistics for the Red Bulletin when it was a F1 magazine) who said that they’ll be far from bored. There will be other series and formulae running and that this race is just the start rather than the finale. So not the white elephant some of the harsher critics would have us believe.

It is, however the finale of our season and with it comes the end of term parties and events. BMW held theirs to say Servus to the Paddock Let’s hope we see most, if not all, of them again in some capacity next year. It was held outside their hospitality villa on the edge of the harbour and very well attended. Although the gentleman trying to enjoy his relaxing hot tub on the yacht immediately beside didn’t look overly impressed that it was his berth that was adjacent to the party. But he was one serious dude. Not only did his yacht have a hot tub, it also had its own kestrel.

Our team gathered on our roof terrace for our own private get-together. Hats off to Christian (not that one, the head of catering…) and our catering staff for decking the terrace out Arabic-style and the food and beverages they provided. Actually, hats off to them for the excellent work they’ve done all season for both the team and our guests, they do a top job.

The third night of live music at “Ferrari World” saw Kings Of Leon take to the stage, and very good they were too by all accounts. Tomorrow night fellow countrymen Aerosmith bring the musical entertainment to a close. While the concept of nightly concerts at races is a fine one, they do tend clash with the Paddock schedules. Still it was better than Singapore when ZZ Top had to compete with the noise and distraction of cars on track.

This isn’t (obviously) from the gig, but they did play it:

Tomorrow we fire up the RB5s for the final time in 2009. While there is an end of term air about the place in general, what is absent in our part of the Paddock is a lack of determination for tomorrow. We want both drivers to end on a high and on that podium.
